Mr Five Star and World Travel and Dinning Reviews & Resources
Sandy Lane, Barbados, West Indies MrFiveStar Top 10 Summer and WinterFeatured

slviewtospaw.jpgThe name 'Sandy Lane' conjures up images of serene style in a gloriously exotic setting. From the moment its first guests were welcomed in 1961, Sandy Lane has been considered the premier address in the Caribbean - preferred by royalty, movie stars and many of the business world's most discerning personalities.

Today Sandy Lane maintains its eminence in the 21st century as the premier luxury resort in the world with accolades from guests and awards travel trade and travel magazines.

Sandy Lane is the complete resort … where you can be as active or relaxed as you wish; a romantic retreat for those seeking seclusion, a haven of tranquillity for couples, or the perfect location for families who desire the finest holiday experience with the widest choice of leisure options.

slentrancebentleyw.jpgAs your chauffeured luxury car sweeps smoothly into the driveway, you glimpse, between the lines of mature mahogany trees, a Palladian-style building of cream coralstone shimmering in the sunlight and the sapphire waters of the Caribbean.

slsuitew.jpgAll rooms have plasma wide-screen television, an interactive entertainment system, stereo, private bar, personal in-room safe, and a convenient telephone system with direct dial access.

Averaging 900 square feet, rooms at Sandy Lane are spacious and uniquely feature a large private verandah.

All rooms have specially designed multi-spray showers, heated mirrors in the bathroom, parabolic speakers on verandah and in the bathroom and a range of 5 star features that ensure your stay is both memorable and very comfortable. sl395w.jpg

Sandy Lane has been designed in an elegant yet understated style and has four restaurants plus five bars located around the resort for your convenience and pleasure.

Take a stroll through the lush, landscaped gardens prior to an intimate aperitif or cocktail in the aptly-named Monkey Bar, with its intriguingly decorative murals and ceiling, or in the Terrace Lounge or Beach Bar.

sllacajouw.jpgAt L'Acajou, the signature restaurant, invites you to enjoy new world cuisine and fine wines in an open-air waterfront setting. The menu showcases the freshest island seafood, local delicacies and the best of imported products. sl400w.jpg

You may prefer the more casual Bajan Blue,  beachfront restaurant that offers an all-day dining option. Wherever you choose to dine at Sandy' Lane, the experience will be a truly memorable one.

slsailw.jpgYou can laze your days away on the beach or by our pool complete with bar and café. Or take part in something more strenuous with your choice from top class golf, tennis, the complete range of water sports available at the Beach Club under the guidance of our qualified attendants ... even a trip to swim with the turtles!

In The Spa - a splendid Romanesque building fronted by a spectacular waterfall cascading into the large freeform swimming pool - our highly skilled therapists are waiting to rejuvenate your mind, body and spirit.

Each suite offers a private shower, bathroom and changing facilities where you can relax and escape. Nine suites feature private landscaped gardens and three have hydrotherapy pools. Inspired by the example of the ancients, we have created a unique treatment concept that blends traditional cultural therapies from the Caribbean, the Far East and Europe with a balanced philosophy of health and well-being. These are treatments of rare quality and exceedingly high standards, delivered by a team of therapists who are committed to providing personalized care to every client. But the greatest therapies of all are the Barbadians' warm hospitality ... and the exclusive experience that is Sandy Lane, one that you can never forget and will long to repeat, time after time.

Frommer's Review: Sandy Lane is one of the most luxurious places to stay in the southern Caribbean, as its horrifying prices and high-flying clientele will attest. Tiger Woods rented the whole place out for his 2004 wedding, and other celeb guests include Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Jerry Seinfeld, and Cindy Crawford. Ronald Tree, an heir to the Marshall Field's department store fortune, built Shady Lane in the 1960s. After falling into neglect, it was rescued in 1997 by Irish investors, who poured US$350 million into its reconstruction. Fortunately, its pristine beach set against a backdrop of swaying palms needed no such rehabilitation. Frommer web site.

Prices Winter US$2,800-US$3,700 (£1,456-£1,924) double, US$4,000-US$9,200 (£2,080-£4,784) suite; off season US$900-US$1,500 (£468-£780) double, US$2,900-US$7,000 (£1,508-£3,640) suite

Fodor's Review: Few places on earth can compare to Sandy Lane's luxurious facilities and ultra-pampering service -- or to its astronomical prices. Taking "upscale" to an entirely new level, Sandy Lane is by far the priciest and most exclusive resort in Barbados and is among the most expensive in the world, but for the few who can afford to stay here -- royals, celebrities, and business moguls among them -- it's an unparalleled experience. The main building of this exquisite resort is a coral-stone, Palladian-style mansion facing a sweeping stretch of beach shaded by mature trees. Guest accommodations, sumptuous in every detail, include three plasma TVs and DVD, full in-room wet bar, a personal butler, and remote-controlled everything -- even the draperies! The world-class spa, housed in a magnificent Romanesque building, is a vacation in itself. Add elegant dining, the Caribbean's best golf courses, a tennis center, a full complement of water sports, a special lounge for teenagers, incomparable style…you get the picture. Sandy Lane is extraordinary.
