Inn and Spa at Loretto-Santa Fe NMFeatured

Here is a little gem we found that should not be missed if you are a true romantic. Upon arriving hotel_front_b at the Inn and Spa at Loretto you enter through an adobe walled compound to a sculptured stone and brick circular drive leading to the double dark wood door entrance of the hotel. The hotel is deeply steeped in Indian and Spanish history with numerous handcrafted fixtures and displays of native petroglyphs and weavings. The accent colors of the décor are warm and vibrant. This place is really charming. From the bell staff to the management this hotel exudes with warm friendliness and a genuine attitude of caring about every detail of your visit. The Inn and Spa at Loretto is always under the watchful eye of General Manager Michael Allen’s well trained staff. The entire hotel is fresh and spotlessly clean, although built some 30 years ago it did have a major make over in 2002. Everything is up to date here, including high speed wireless internet that really works well everywhere.

loretto lunch.jpgThe Inn and Spa at Loretto gets it name from the Sisters of Loretto who arrived in 1852 where the hotel is today to establish an academy for girls. There is a beautiful chapel built by the Sisters of Loretto located on the hotel property and accessed from the hotel. Not only is the chapel a beautiful sanctuary but it too is full of history with the focal attraction “The Inexplicable Stairs” The Inn and Spa at Loretto is truly an American treasure as well as a wonderful romantic getaway.

The hotel is the favorite location for weddings and regional events because of its inviting personality and quaint facilities. For the romantic the rooms and suites are cozy, and conferrable. Many of the rooms have a private terrace where one can dine under the stars or bask in the sun without being disturbed. There is also 24 hour room service for that middle of that night snack. The room and suite amenities are everything you can imagine and expect form a world class resort. Activities out of the suite there is the Lounge and outdoor heated pool, the Fitness Center as well as the fabulous Spa Terre featuring exotic treatments from around the world. The Spa Terra, a signature of the Nobel House Hotels and Resorts. Please click on their web site listed below for complete details on this wonderful facility. The Spa Terre will be a great treat for that special person in your life.

If it is shopping you are craving then just stroll down the halls of the hotel and visit the famed Columbine Gallery, three Ravens Gallery, the Sculpture Garden featuring works from local artists. There is no shortage of shopping and dining in or very near the hotel.

loretto pool.jpgThe Baleen Restaurant is on of the best in the area. Weather permitting and that is about 300 days a year the fresco Patio offers a romantic setting for a great dining experience. I had dinner there July 10, 2006. My meal was prepared by chef de cuisine Ronnie Sanchez who brings a world of experience to the Baleen after serving under Chef Ferran Adria of the El Bulli in Sapin. The hotel’s Executive Chef John Cox ,a native of New Mexico steers the ship in the kitchen creating a new menu almost weekly utilizing many locally grown ingredients. My dining experience was fabulous with terrific service, wonderful well prepared items such as Ceviche of Day Boat Scallops & Cortez Prawn Flauta with Heirloom Tomato Guacamole for the entrée I had Tahitian Vanilla Poached Alaskan Halibut with forbidden Black Rice and Mango Salsa. The presentation was excellent. The entire evening will be a memorable experience as I also got a chance to visit with Chef Ronnie Sanchez following dinner, as to his ideas for the future of food and his thoughts of where fine dining is headed.
