Mr. Five Star visited Sorrel River Ranch May 24-25, 2006. The Ranch is located 17 miles northeast of Moab Utah on state highway 128. The closest major airport is Grand Junction, Colorado 90 minutes away. The drive from Grand Junction is unlike anything you have seen with a backdrop of mountains, cliffs, buttes, mesas, and the mighty Colorado River.

From the moment you enter this resort property you instantly realize it is a rubbed, tubbed and scrubbed operation. The grounds and buildings are meticulously maintained constantly, hour by hour. There always seems to be someone cleaning something at all times. This is not your typical smelly dust bowl ranch operation. First, there are beautiful grass lawns, where there aren't paved roads and paths. Most of the cottages and buildings have been built over the past 7 years. This Ranch is a continuing work in progress. During my visit they were constructing a massive, beamed covering for the check- in area.

You have all the FIVE STAR conveniences we have become accustomed to using on a daily basis, wireless and wired internet everywhere, Business center with computers, fax and printers, Direct Satellite TV in all suites and rooms, refrigerators and microwave ovens in all rooms, Robes, ironing boards, hairdryers, hydrotherapy tubs, oversized glass showers, fireplaces, and Gilchrist & Soames toiletries, room service, movie rentals, picnic lunches, laundry service, Valet and door to door transportation. Book a suite it is only a few dollars more and well worth it.

There are plenty of things to do on this ranch. Bring your horses or ride theirs. They have wranglers, and plenty of gentle horses. Stay in shape at their fitness center. Play tennis on the two hard courts or spend the day at the spa. There is also 4WD trips through the national parks and white water rafting down the Colorado River. There is also ATV tours, Mountain biking, and hiking and climbing.  If it is an outdoor ranch experience you are looking for with a FIVE STAR environment, this is the place.

They have also done a great job with the food service. You may have room service, dine around the large pool or hot tub, on the veranda or in the River Grill dining room. If it is a picnic or a packed lunch you want they are ready for you. The menus feature everything from steaks, pasta, BBQ Ribs, salads and Vegetarian items. My favorite dinner item was the River House salad with mixed baby greens, beets, avocado, diced bacon, hard boiled egg, cucumber, roasted bell pepper, green onions, and goat cheese. My dinner entrée was a Mediterranean bouillabaisse and for desert a special warm bread pudding and ice cream. They also offer an extensive wine list and full bar.
