This restaurant is located in one of the trendiest hotels in Aspen, the Little Nell. Montagna is what Colorado resort people call casual elegance. The room has entertained countless captains of industry, finance and major world leaders. Chef Ryan Hardy brings a vast background of culinary excellence to this fine restaurant. He is almost overshadowed by Master Sommelier Richard Betts. Betts is not ONLY a Master Sommelier, he also co owns his own vineyards and is producing wine in his spare time. This team can really put a fine evening together for you. Don't forget breakfast and lunch, they do it all. There is also veranda dining during as part of this restaurant. Frequently while attending the Food and Wine Classic in June each year I invite guests I am interviewing for breakfast here, as it is civilized, somewhat reverent, quiet enough to do a decent interview and the breakfast menu is the best in town. At the moment Montagna is just about the best bet for a wonderful evening of dining and sampling wine from the 15,000 bottle cellar, and taking some tips from the Master. Master Sommelier Richard Betts Some of the items on the menu that I enjoy are the Toasted Beet and Arugula Salad with homemade ricotta and 20 year old Balsamico, then Grilled Red Deer Loin with Buttermilk and spatzle with resling braised cabbage. There were several wines served with the dinner but the most memorable was the 1989 Lynch Bages. The wine Master thought it was a bit big for the Deer and he may be correct for most people, but when there is 1989 Lynch Bages close by, I say let's go for it. Montagna is one of only a few choices for Five Star dining in Aspen. Please go to their web link to learn more about the Chef and Master Sommelier Richard Betts.
