Bellagio, Las Vegas, MrFiveStar Pick PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mr Five Star
There is something about the Bellagio, that for my taste puts it ahead of the pack. That's right, ahead of the Wynn, or the Venetian and their new counterparts. Now that is not a total slap in Steve Wynn's face since he was the inspiration of the Bellagio, in the first place. Sheldon Adelson may have out-spent Bellagio in recent dollars over at the Venetian, but to me the Venetian is more like a high class carnival. In Las Vegas standards the Bellagio is true class. MrFiveStar keeps Bellagio at the top of our Las Vegas Resort Hotel List.bellagio_front1.jpg

Now, the Bellagio for all its enormous size has been able to maintain the feel of a today's version of a Grand Hotel. Even the utilitarian Lobby and Reception areas still exude a degree of class. The 20 million dollar Chihuly glass creation in the ceiling in the entrance area as well as the classy Petrossian Champagne and Caviar bar bordering the Lobby add an extra touch of elegance.

Throughout the day and evening you will hear the sounds of the grand piano from the Petrossian penetrating the bells of slot machines in the background.

Contentment and opulence are the hallmarks of the Bellagio luxury hotel experience. A retreat unto themselves, the 3,933 Guest Rooms and Suites are an extension of this AAA Five Diamond Award-winning Las Vegas hotel and Resort. Bellagio is a luxury hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in the Paradise area of unincorporated Clark County, Nevada, USA. It is owned by MGM Mirage and was built on the site of the demolished Dunes hotel and casino.

Inspired by the Lake Como resort of Bellagio in Italy, Bellagio is famed for its elegance. One of its most notable features is an 8-acre  artificial lake between the building and the Strip, which houses the Fountains of Bellagio, a large dancing water fountain synchronized to music. bellagio_glas.jpg

Inside Bellagio, Dale Chihuly's Fiori di Como, composed of over 2,000 hand-blown glass flowers, covers 2,000 sq ft of the lobby ceiling. Bellagio is home to Cirque du Soleil's aquatic production "O". Bellagio was conceived by Steve Wynn and built by his company, Mirage Resorts, Inc. following the purchase and demolition of the legendary Dunes hotel and casino in 1993.  When it opened, it was the most expensive hotel ever built at around US$1.6 billion.

According to Wikipedia:

The Fountains of Bellagio is a vast, choreographed water feature with performances set to light and music. The performances take place in front of the Bellagio hotel and are visible from numerous vantage points on the Strip, both from the street and neighboring structures. The show takes place every 30 minutes in the afternoons and early evenings, and every 15 minutes from 8 p.m. to midnight. Before a water show starts, a gong sounds to warn people that the show is about to start.  The fountain display is choreographed to various pieces of music.

The fountains are set in a 9-acre manmade lake. Contrary to a common urban myth that the lake is filled with treated greywater from the hotel, it is actually serviced by a fresh water well that was drilled decades prior to irrigate a golf course that previously existed on the site. The fountains actually use less water than irrigating the golf course did. They incorporate a network of pipes with more than 1,200 nozzles that make it possible to stage fountain displays coordinated with more than 4,500 lights. It is estimated that the fountains cost US$75 million to build.

Dining is also some of the best in Las Vegas at the Bellagio, spotlighting well know culinary talents of Tod English, Le Cirque's living legend Sirio Maccioni, Michael Mina, and Jean-Georges Vongerichten just to mention a few.
m08_20w43w.jpgThe Bellagio style reaches a crescendo with the spectacular fountains in the front of the property as you approach, then as you pass through the lobby there is a fragrance in the air like jasmine or gardenias throughout the entire building complex. That fragrance emulates from the Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.

The displays are changed out five times a year and reflect the current season (winter, Chinese New Year, spring, April, summer, and fall).
